iSelect repatriating service centre to Vic
Australian insurance, utilities and finance price comparison service iSelect plans to repatriate its service centre operations from South Africa to Victoria and establish a new Data Science Centre of Excellence in the state.
The new Data Science Centre of Excellence will focus on research into areas such as machine learning, data science and artificial intelligence.
Moving the centre back to Victoria will create 90 new jobs for the state, while the new Data Science Centre will create 65 new high-skilled positions, including internships and exchange programs.
Victorian Minister for Trade and Investment Philip Dalidakis said the company’s decision to buck the outsourcing trend and establish the new centres at its Cheltenham headquarters is a testament to the positive business conditions in the state, as well as the health of its economy.
“This is yet another example of a home-grown company showing that it’s possible to break into global markets without having to leave Victoria,” he said.
“Victoria continues to be a hub for global tech leaders, strengthening our reputation as a centre of excellence and helping us to grow the jobs and industries of the future.”
Victoria is also home to the local headquarters of a number of other global tech companies, including Google, Amazon, LiveTiles, Square, Zendesk and MYOB.
iSelect provides price comparison information for a range of services, including insurance, finance, energy, broadband and education services.
