NSW Govt seeks operator for new Sydney tech precinct

The NSW Government is calling on potential operators to deliver up to 8000 m2 of workspace for Tech Central, a hub for emerging and digital technology scale-ups. Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said expressions of interest are now open to deliver flexible office solutions, programming and business support services for high-growth technology scale-ups.

Ayres said the scale-up hub will add to Sydney’s position as the major technology hub in Asia Pacific, with $48 million in funding committed to bringing Tech Central to life and creating up to 25,000 new jobs.

“Technology and innovation are at the heart of the NSW Government’s strategy to attract investment, generate jobs, accelerate growth and set the state up for dynamic recovery following COVID-19,” said Ayres.

David Thodey AO, Chair of the Tech Precinct advisory body, said providing affordable space for scale-ups would help inspire and encourage the next generation of tech entrepreneurs.

“As we start to activate space for start-ups and for scale-ups who may have outgrown their initial location, Tech Central’s anchor tenant, Atlassian, will also base their headquarters in the Western Gateway of the Central Precinct, signalling to the world that Tech Central is the premier place to do tech business in Australia,” said Thodey.

Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said accommodating scale-ups around Central Station will support the NSW Government’s longer-term vision to expand Sydney’s southern central business district.

“By unlocking 24 hectares of government-owned land in Central Precinct at Central Station, we can support connectivity for businesses and research institutions,” said Constance.

Expressions of interests will be open from 15 December 2020 until 1 February 2021. More information is available here.
