OAIC announces line-up for privacy summit

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner has announced the program for next month's Data + Privacy Asia Pacific, its conference for public and private sector data experts and privacy regulators.

The conference at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on 12 July will include plenary sessions on ethical data stewardship, the data protection considerations of big data, AI and machine learning, and the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.

Speakers will include Privacy and Information Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim, Information Accountability Foundation Executive Strategist for Policy Information Peter Cullen, UK Information Commissioner's Office Deputy Commissioner Simon Entwisle and New Zealand Privacy Commissioner John Edwards.

Journalist and ABC News Breakfast presenter Virginia Trioli will MC the event.

The day-long conference will also include breakout sessions on new technologies, health and privacy, and protecting reputations, along with a session on identifying global and domestic synergies for regulatory enforcement activities.

Representatives from the US FTC, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner British Columbia, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the HKSAR government, the Thai Data Protection Advisory Committee, the AFP, Deloitte, Monash University and other organisations will also be attending as panel members of various sessions.

Registrations for the conference are now open.
