ServiceNow teams with La Trobe on new course

ServiceNow has partnered with La Trobe University and management consultancy firm e-Centric Innovations to introduce Australia’s first ServiceNow Application Developer course, designed to upskill existing IT professionals to help address the ongoing technology skills crisis.

The eight-week intensive course will have its inaugural intake this month. It will include weekly instructor-led virtual sessions with facilitators.

Upon completion, participants will receive two industry-recognised ServiceNow certifications, La Trobe accreditation and access to job prospects at e-Centric Innovations. La Trobe plans to use the course to upskill some of its own IT staff to improve its in-house ServiceNow expertise.

ServiceNow Australia and New Zealand VP and Managing Director Eric Swift said the initiative forms part of the company’s commitment to training 1 million people globally by 2024 to meet demand for ServiceNow skilled talent.

“There currently aren’t any courses like this in Australia, so it’s great to partner with La Trobe University to help meet the huge demand we’re seeing for ServiceNow skills across the country,” he said.

e-Centric Innovations Managing Director Kee Wong added that tackling Australia’s IT skills shortage is an imperative.

“IT is one of the major skill gaps in Australia. We simply don’t have enough qualified people to fill the number of available roles, and the problem is only going to intensify as the tech sector continues to grow at pace,” he said.

“This course is a step in the right direction — as an organisation, we’d noticed a gap in terms of the skills university graduates possessed and what businesses were looking for in their new recruits, so this course aims to get recent graduates immediately job-ready, while also upskilling IT staff who are looking to extend their current skill set.”
