Sydney tech community supported with CeBIT funding
CeBIT Australia will receive $50,000 in funding from the City of Sydney each year for the next three years.
This will enable CeBIT to help Sydney’s tech industry to build knowledge, relationships and business opportunities.
With a focus on business information communications and technology and industry trends, CeBIT has increasingly become a platform for international trade and business negotiations.
The 2018 event is expected to attract more than 15,000 attendees from 34 countries, with more than 350 exhibitors and trade delegations from around 20 countries.
Since 2013, CeBIT Australia has shown an increased focus on CeBIT StartUp, with a growing dedicated exhibition space, conference, PitchFest and networking, mentoring and education opportunities for Sydney’s start-up sector and investment community. It has also shown an increased focus in educational institutions showcasing their innovations and research to foster knowledge exchange and support the next generation of tech leaders and entrepreneurs.
“CeBIT gives Sydney’s business leaders and organisations the opportunity to meet global leaders and build long-term relationships,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
“It’s a key support for our strong entrepreneurial culture, and efforts to attract and retain talent and keep Sydney competitive on the global stage.
“Local tech businesses can learn from international expertise, raise their global profile and showcase Sydney’s innovation and quality services.”
In the City of Sydney area there are 24,764 people working in information, communications and technology, equating to 6% of the total workforce and making this the third-largest industry in the area.
The City’s economic development strategy, tech start-ups action plan and digital strategy all include a focus on supporting technology and communications businesses.
