Telstra to provide open access wholesale service on some new fibre networks

Monday, 23 January, 2012

Telstra will provide an open access wholesale service on fibre networks that it’s currently deploying in South Brisbane and some new real estate projects, according to Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Conroy today announced that Telstra will provide a wholesale broadband service - known as the Fibre Access Broadband Service - to access seekers on request.

The service will be provided on an “open and equitable basis”, Conroy’s office said.

According to Conroy, this will stimulate competition between service providers.

“Provision of the wholesale service will support competition between service providers on these networks and offer greater choice for end users,” Conroy said.

The service will be subject to oversight by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
