US branch of CSIRO to open in 2017
The CSIRO will be opening an office in San Francisco, taking Australian scientific innovation to the United States.
The office opening will support the federal government’s National Innovation and Science Agenda, as well as capitalising on the CSIRO’s relationships with science and industry leaders including NASA, Bayer LLP, Boeing and the Gates Foundation.
“To accelerate innovation rates in Australia we need to accelerate international engagement, especially in regions where there is a significant opportunity to return value to Australia. From this point of view the US is a no-brainer,” said CSIRO Chief Executive Dr Larry Marshall.
“Our focus is firmly on bringing benefit back to Australia and that philosophy will be applied to everything we do in the US. We’re looking forward to igniting Aussie innovation in such an exciting, dynamic market.”
Global growth is integral to the CSIRO’s mission under Strategy 2020, and the US office will be the organisation’s second international office following the opening of CSIRO Chile in 2011.
CSIRO Global General Manager Nigel Warren anticipates CSIRO US will help put Australian breakthroughs at the centre of the world’s research and technology frontier.
“Australia’s capacity to bring world-leading technologies to the market is unquestionable, but we need to realise that potential at scale. CSIRO US will provide a gateway to a market with big economic potential,” Warren said.
CSIRO US will open during the first half of 2017.
