Vodafone, Singtel named APAC telecoms leaders
Vodafone Group and Optus’s parent company Singtel have been named leaders of the Asia–Pacific telecom services market by technology analyst company IDC.
The companies were recognised for their strong regional network presence, diverse portfolios of services and customers, and their leadership in adoption of software-defined technologies.
Telstra and a number of other regional service providers were named major players, challenging the leaders for a larger slice of the market.
IDC evaluated the operators based on criteria including comprehensiveness of service offerings, software-defined networks and cloud capabilities, go-to-market strategy, growth strategy, partner ecosystem and innovation strategy.
"Communication service providers operating in Asia–Pacific are seeking to become the ICT partner of choice for enterprises looking for rapid growth in their respective countries and regionally,” IDC Asia–Pacific senior research manager for telecoms Nikhil Batra said.
“These enterprises are embracing 3rd Platform technologies and pushing efforts to digitally transform their businesses. To this end, CSPs are helping enterprises achieve their goals with a portfolio of solutions and products that include software-defined networking (SDN), hybrid cloud deployments and managed services.”
Other leaders in the APAC market include France-based Orange, UK-based BT and US-based AT&T, while other major players include Japan’s NTT Com and India’s Global Cloud Xchange (GCX).
