Cloudera enhances data lake solutions

US-based data lake software company Cloudera has unveiled enhancements to its software solutions aimed at helping enterprises securely apply AI to data wherever it is stored. The company unveiled the updates to its Cloudera Iceberg REST Catalog and Cloudera Lakehouse Optimizer solutions at its EVOLVE25 NYC AI and data industry event.

With the updates, Cloudera said it has become the only provider to integrate the Iceberg REST Catalog across a full-lifecycle data and AI platform. The upgraded offering allows third-party engines to access Cloudera-managed data directly, without needing to copy or move it and face the attendant increases in costs and security risks.

Cloudera said the updates will also provide customers with enterprise-grade governance, and open metadata access for improved discovery of data assets. Meanwhile the Cloudera Lakehouse Optimizer service has been designed to deliver automated optimisations and table maintenance for Apache Iceberg within the Cloudera lakehouse.

The company said the solution is able to intelligently optimise tables, eliminating the need for manual data management tasks and operational costs.

Cloudera Chief Product Officer Leo Brunnick said the updates further the company’s capabilities in the Big Data market.

“Cloudera pioneered the Big Data industry, and remains a leading platform provider who continues to invest in making the Apache Iceberg open table format enterprise-ready,” he said. “With today’s news, we continue to deliver on the promise of flexibility, scalability and uncompromised insights when and where you need them the most. That commitment is why the world’s largest organisations rely on Cloudera to bring AI to their data, wherever it lives.”
