NetApp, Oracle building managed storage service for OCI
NetApp and Oracle have unveiled a fully managed storage service that introduces NetApp enterprise-grade storage natively to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure NetApp Storage Service will bring NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities to the cloud platform to help organisations simplify the migration and management of critical AI and enterprise workloads in the cloud. It is expected to launch into general availability within the next 12 months.
The solution is aimed at helping enterprises migrate, run, protect and modernise databases, enterprise applications, virtualised environments, AI data pipelines, regulated applications and other important applications while preserving familiar storage operations.
NetApp SVP and GM for Cloud Storage and Services Pravjit Tiwana said the solution enables customers to move existing ONTAP-based workloads to the cloud while minimising application redesign and storage management changes.
“Customers want the flexibility to move AI and enterprise workloads to the cloud without giving up operational simplicity, data management and reliability,” he said. “OCI NetApp Storage Service gives customers a native OCI experience while allowing them to use the ONTAP familiar capabilities for data protection, migration, governance and multiprotocol access.”
OCI SVP of Partnerships Konstantinos Papamiltiadis said enterprises shouldn’t have to rebuild their data infrastructure to move to the cloud.
“OCI NetApp Storage Service gives customers a trusted, familiar path to OCI, so they can focus on what the data does, not how it’s managed,” he said.
