Datadog launches cloud storage management tool
Cloud application security and monitoring platform provider Datadog has launched Storage Management, a solution aimed at helping organisations reduce waste and control object storage spending.
Available now for Amazon S3 and in preview for Google Cloud Storage and Azure Blob Storage, Storage Management is designed to help organisations address growing cloud object storage costs from data-intensive and AI workloads.
The solution seeks to provide customers with detailed insights into cloud object storage at the bucket and prefix levels across billions of objects, to help them uncover savings opportunities such as transitioning cold data from expensive storage classes, or detecting and deleting duplicate objects.
IT teams can use the solution to uncover anomalies in storage growth and access patterns, analyse storage behaviour in context, and act on specific, automated recommendations to reduce cloud storage spend faster. Examples include infrequently accessed, temporary or duplicate data, unexpected access patterns, cost spikes and unexpected storage growth.
The platform can provide organisations with specific, actionable recommendations on where to re-tier, archive or delete data, according to Datadog VP of product Yrieix Garnier.
“For companies building AI products, data storage and processing is consistently the third-highest contributor to cost — greater than expenses for AI model training and inferencing,” he said. “With Datadog Storage Management, teams are empowered to optimise cloud storage costs and prevent unexpected spend. By rightsizing these costs, companies can keep their focus on building better products and bringing them to market.”
