AIIA publishes navigating AI report
The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has published two papers designed to help Australian businesses safely implement and adopt artificial intelligence.
The two papers, prepared in collaboration with KPMG, seek to address the adoption, development, use and need for self-regulation of AI. They include ‘Navigating AI: A guide to the use and adoption of AI’, which examines global and local regulation and best practice around adoption and governance.
Meanwhile, ‘A Checklist for Trustworthy AI’ provides a governance and implementation checklist for Australian businesses covering ethical, legal, data, security and other issues.
The papers collectively recommend that organisations take the lead in ensuring that the design, implementation and use of AI solutions is undertaken in an informed and transparent manner.
They also recommend that governments should be an active enabler and adopter of AI solutions, providing the necessary tools and frameworks to guide the responsible development and application of AI solutions for use in government contexts.
AIIA CEO Simon Bush said the papers were prepared based on the understanding that a strong structure and framework for its application is needed to de-risk AI adoption due to the potentially disruptive nature of the technology.
“We’ve heard the projections that AI, alongside other digital technologies, will add $315bn to the economy by 2028. In order to get there we need to kickstart the confident adoption of AI across the economy,” he said.
“The AIIA is proud to be leading the conversation on AI adoption alongside KPMG to deliver tangible benefits to industry and Australia more broadly. We know organisations that invest in AI and build a structure that provides strong evaluation of its implementation will be best positioned for the future.”
