BSI launches responsible AI package
Business standards company BSI has launched a new program aimed at helping organisations safely integrate AI into their operations, including certification to a new management system.
The scheme is designed to align with the newly published international management system standard for AI from the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). It is intended to help organisations responsibly use AI while addressing considerations like non-transparent automatic decision-making, the utilisation of machine learning for system design and continuous learning.
The program aims to help close the AI confidence gap which has been exposed by BSI’s research finding that 64% of Australian adults want global guidelines for the use of the technology.
It builds on BSI’s existing portfolio of AI services including AI training courses to help individuals and organisations navigate the complexities of AI standards and regulations, as well as BSI’s AI Excellence Benchmark Assessments for organisations seeking to ensure their AI technologies are used responsibly and ethically.
BSI CEO Susan Taylor Martin said BSI has the objective of becoming a notified body for AI products requiring oversight under the EU AI Act.
“AI is a transformational technology. For it to be a powerful force for good, trust is critical. This is an important step in empowering organisations to responsibly manage the technology, which in turn offers the opportunity to harness AI to accelerate progress towards a better future and a sustainable world,” she said. “BSI is proud to be at the forefront of ensuring AI’s safe and trusted integration across society.”
BSI’s research also shows that 23% of Australians are already using AI every day at work, with 56% expecting their industries to do so by 2030. The research found that closing the ‘AI confidence gap’ and building trust in the technology is key to powering its benefits for society and planet.
