Equinix expands Network Edge to Melbourne

Equinix has announced it has expanded availability of its Network Edge service to its Melbourne data centre campus.

The Network Edge platform offers a virtual network function (VNF) services ecosystem that enables enterprises to rapidly deploy virtual network services where they are needed, without the need for a physical data centre deployment or dedicated hardware.

Vendors including Cisco, CloudGenix, Fortinet, Juniper Networks, Palo Alto Networks, Silver Peak Versa Networks and VMware provide solutions over the platform.

The Network Edge service launched in Sydney in late 2019, and has now been extended to most of Equinix’s Melbourne data centres.

Equinix Australia Managing Director Guy Danskine said the solution has been designed to meet customers’ evolving needs.

“Network Edge provides a powerful suite of virtual network services and a compelling value proposition for enterprises to scale globally at a predictable cost,” he said.

“The ability to deploy digital-ready infrastructure in minutes is increasingly important for customers, driven by a shift to as-a-service consumption models at the edge of the network. Additionally, by integrating with Equinix Fabric, customers can access the world’s largest interconnection ecosystem, virtually, extending their reach to potentially thousands of new business partners around the world.”

Danskine added that the advantage of a dual-metro deployment in Australia is the ability to offer customers enhanced disaster recovery services.
