Telstra unveils new leadership team

Telstra has announced a new topline organisational structure and leadership team as part of the T22 strategy to simplify its operational structure.

Telstra is seeking to remove duplication, hierarchy and silos across the organisation through the strategy, CEO Andy Penn said in a letter to employees. The strategy was first announced in June, along with plans to slash 8000 employee and contractor jobs.

As part of the new structure, a dedicated product and technology division has been established, to be led by a soon-to-be announced external appointee.

Meanwhile, former SBS CEO and managing director Michael Ebeid has been selected to lead up Telstra’s enterprise team, starting from 8 October.

Vicki Brady will continue to lead the consumer and small business division, while Nikos Katinakis, former executive vice president of networks at disruptive pan-Indian mobile operator Reliance Jio Infocomm, will lead the networks and IT division.

Telstra’s recently announced dedicated wholesale division Telstra InfraCo, which will manage around $11 billion in fixed line assets, will be led by current Group Executive for Telstra Enterprise Brendon Riley.

The company has also promoted David Burns as the leader of Telstra Global Business Services and Robyn Denholm to the roles of CFO and Head of Strategy.

As part of the job cuts, Penn also announced the departure of current CFO Warwick Bray, Group Executive for Technology, Innovation and Strategy Stephen Elop, Group Executive of Telstra Wholesale Will Irving, and CMO and Group Executive for Media Joe Pollard.

“Last month I announced the T22 strategy to the market and today I am making further announcements on Telstra’s structure and leadership to ensure we deliver rapidly and effectively on all of the commitments we made to our customers, the market and our team,” Penn wrote in his letter.

“At the heart of these changes is the simplification of our products and services built on new technology. By mid-next year we will have fully rolled out our market-leading products and services. To help deliver these changes, we are announcing a new end-to-end products and technology division of Telstra. It means we will significantly increase our technical capabilities around product development and management.”
