UTS co-founds Australia–China research centre

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has founded a joint centre for advanced research into key sciences and technologies in collaboration with the China Electronics Group Corporation (CETC).

The Australia–China Research Innovation Centre in Information and Electronics Technologies (IET) will conduct long-term research projects into information, communications and electronics technologies.

Key areas of focus will include big data, quantum computing and communications, AI, simultaneous localisation and mapping for robotics and advanced materials and electronics.

Membership will be progressively extended to include participation from other Australian and Chinese universities as well as the CSIRO.

CETC, an electronics, big data, telecoms and ICT company, will provide up to $5 million in funding over the next five years for the facility.

“We have a solid reputation as a world leader in wireless communications, sensing and data science and data engineering. Within the Global Big Data Technologies Centre (GBDTC) we have already been collaborating with CETC on cutting-edge wireless technologies for future telecommunications networks,” UTS Distinguished Professor Jay Guo said.

“Joint projects undertaken with the new centre will further enhance our international standing, advance our ability to develop innovative solutions and provide opportunities to commercialise our technologies for greater societal impacts.”
