LANDesk Asset Lifecycle Manager 4.0

Friday, 05 February, 2010

LANDesk Software has announced LANDesk Asset Lifecycle Manager 4.0 for software asset management, data centre readiness and increased integration and control so users can more easily discover, track and manage software licences.

The manager enables standards-driven planning, operational monitoring and control for the data centre by leveraging process automation, catalogue-based device reservation and the asset repository.

It integrates with VMware allowing users to automate VMware actions through the vCenter architecture, enabling request-driven, policy-enabled IT asset management control to address VM sprawl. It includes a connector for the Avocent Mergepoint Infrastructure Explorer data centre planning and administration tool.

ALM 4.0 helps identify, track and manage all virtual machines that are running, understands power requirements, powers them up or down and finds ghost servers (virtual servers that are dormant). It monitors and delivers agreed contract, warranties and service level agreements. The manager tracks assets to optimise usage and resource allocation and monitors accountability of people using the IT assets and tracks licences and entitlement, policy enforcement on licences and use of licences, as well as licence recovery and re-allocation.
